How Air Check Valves Work
Air Check Valves feature a spring-loaded design and sit on the outlet side of the meter. In most Liquid Controls meter systems, installers pair an air eliminator with either an Air Check Valve or a differential valve. During installation, technicians pipe the air eliminator and the valve together so they operate as one integrated unit.
In normal operation, the Air Check Valve stays closed. So, when the pump starts and pushes product into the system, the flow pressure overcomes the spring force and opens the valve. However, when the air eliminator expels air, the system routes that air to the back of the valve spring. So, this extra pressure, combined with the spring’s strength, keeps the valve closed until the system removes all air.
