New depot for Goff Petroleum

Mechanical Bottom Loading arms

Goff Petroleum is a successful, long established heating oil distributor that operates from no less than 14 depots in East Anglia, Kent and Sussex. This respected, family owned and managed business delivers competitively priced heating oil, kerosene, agricultural and commercial fuels to homes, offices, farms and businesses throughout the south east of England, sourcing products from local refineries and distribution points.

When the possibility of acquiring a new site in Tenterden, Kent came along, it was the perfect opportunity to reduce delivery mileage and lower operating costs by creating a fully operational delivery depot close to many of its south east England clients. The Tenterden depot was a little run down and needed a complete refurbishment to make it operational and to bring it in line with Health and Safety legislation. Part of this process included upgrading of the existing tanker loading facility.

Ray Fowler, the Operations Manager at Goff Petroleum was charged with resurrecting the old site and bringing the relatively old technology bang-up-to-date which primarily involved installing new bottom loading facilities. Ray had visited the FPS show earlier that year and met with a number of companies whom he thought capable of manufacturing, delivering and installing the new 3-arm bottom loading skid and its ancillary equipment within a specified time frame. One of those companies was Aylesbury-based Alpeco Limited. All were provided with exactly the same brief and competitive tenders were submitted in due course. On scrutinising the various offers Ray Fowler opted for the Alpeco proposal as he had worked with them on several occasions previously and knew Alpeco to be solid technically and absolutely reliable on delivery whilst offering a high level of support during and post installation.

The project went pretty well as expected. The equipment was installed and commissioned and Ray Fowler is indeed a happy client. The 3-arm Alpeco skid is fitted with Liquid Controls M25 flow meters and VEGA-T electronic registers. On this project the client required a specific register so Alpeco demonstrated their flexibility by fitting a different type of register from that they would normally provide. The VEGA-T electronic pre-set units were supplied to Alpeco by Liquip UK and are configured for temperature compensation and individual control of head loading meter.
