Alpeco recently partnered James Blake & Co (Engineers) on an important rail refuelling project for Direct Rail Services (DRS), a supplier of transport services to the nuclear industry.
DRS wanted to upgrade and extend its Daventry fuel holding facility. Alpeco designed and built the turnkey project at the facility whilst Blake’s manufactured the steel storage tanks at its Scottish factory.
Alpeco’s made-to-measure unit was integrated into a purpose built enclosure on the side of the storage tank. The dispenser comprises two electric motor driven pump units, one of which is a back up for the other should there be a problem, or should the main duty pump be shut down for routine maintenance. A Liquid Controls 2″ flow meter with Veeder Root mechanical counter, printer and pre-set with a bobbin type electric rewind hose reel carrying 150 ft length of delivery hose was also supplied as part of the package.
Skid units and pumps manufactured by Alpeco were installed and then linked to an OFST 200 integrally bunded steel storage tank to comply with oil storage regulations. The operation was completed in less than four hours, well within the allotted time slot.
